Mr. William Gerald Brooks, age 82, passed away on Friday, July 13, 2018 at his home. Mr. Brooks was born on November 20, 1935 in Conway, SC a son of the late Gerald Ruthledge Brooks and the late Mary Belle Bellamy Brooks. Mr. Brooks was a longtime member of Camp Swamp United Methodist Church.
Mr. Brooks grew up on the family farm in the Camp Swamp Community and although he sought an education he continued to farm throughout his life. Mr. Brooks was a graduate of Loris High School and joined the United States Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Brooks was a graduate of Clemson University, where he was a proud member of IPTAY for over 40 years, with a BS in Agricultural Engineering in 1961 and a Masters in Agricultural Engineering in 1962. Mr. Brooks was a teacher at Loris High School before going to work at Horry Georgetown Technical College from 1966 to 1993 retiring as Vice-President. Mr. Brooks was also Past President of the Loris Jaycees and a member of the Conway Civitans.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Hardee Brooks of the home; his son, Barry G. Brooks and wife, Dawn Nalley Brooks; daughter Kelly Brooks Strickland and husband, Jay Strickland; grandchildren, Reese Brooks, William Brooks and fiancé Anna Shillman, Ashton Alford and husband, Justin Alford, Jayson Strickland, Jason Guion-Brooks and Jordan Guion-Brooks; great-grandchild, Jaxton Alford; brother, Glenn G. Brooks and wife, Connie of Atlanta, GA; three sisters, Olis Brooks Jayroe, Donna Brooks Fonvielle and Melinda Brooks; sister-in-law, Tami Springs Brooks and many loving nieces and nephews. The family would also like to thank Sarah Tomlinson for the wonderful care she provided to Mr. Brooks.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Brooks was predeceased by his brother, Robert Howell Brooks.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 16, 2018 at Camp Swamp United Methodist Church officiated by Pastor Glen W. Dameron. Committal services will follow at Bellamy-Brooks Cemetery in Longs, SC. Visitation will be Sunday, July 15, 2018 from 4:00 until 6:00 PM at Hardwick Funeral Home.
