Mr. Hoyt J. Hardee, age 86, passed away Monday, December 2, 2013 after a short illness.

Mr. Hardee was born in Loris, a son of the late Thelton C. Hardee and the late Lezettie Cox Hardee. He was a member of Loris First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, a teacher, and a member of various committees. Mr. Hardee was a loving husband, father and “Papa.”

Mr. Hardee has been a respected member of the Loris community for many years. He was a farmer, former owner of Hardee Manufacturing Co. Inc., and most recently an agent for HUD Southeast Insurance. He was a founder and former board member of HCSB, a member of the McLeod Loris SeaCoast Advisory Board, former chairman and member of Loris Community Hospital District Board of Commissioners, former commissioner for the Soil and Water Conservation District, and a former member of the Loris Lions Club.

Mr. Hardee enjoyed serving his community, but will be remembered more for his kindness, generosity and compassion. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Mr. Hardee was preceded in death by: his parents; a sister, Annie Lee; three brothers, Liston, Kenneth, and Eldred, and a grandson, Frank Ervin Lyerly.

Mr. Hardee is survived by his wife of 65 years, Martha Prince Hardee; daughters, Janice Medlin and her husband David, Edwina Prevatte and her husband Earle, all of Murrells Inlet; grandchildren, Evan Prevatte, Elaina Prevatte, Jennifer Iverson and her husband Erick, Sarah Chamberlain and her husband Jason; great grandchildren, Noah and Leah Iverson and Jacob Chamberlain, and a brother, Waldo, of Pelion, SC.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 4, 2013, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Hardwick Funeral Home in Loris.

Funeral Services will be 11:00AM Thursday, December 5, 2013 at Loris First Baptist with committal services following at Carter Cemetery. Reverend Jim Mezick and Dr. Dan Vincent will officiate services.
