CAYCE - William Henry "Bill" Witt, 91, died peacefully March 15, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Bill was predeceased by his parents, Herman and Josephine Phelan, and a son, William Henry "Boo" Witt, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Lillian Lanell "Nell" Witt, daughter Donna Miller (Ira), grandsons Scott Prince (Ann), Michael Prince, and Russell Prince, as well as great-grandchildren Andrew, Anna, David, Jake, and Jordan. Bill was born November 2, 1925, in Decatur, AL. At age 10, he moved to Jacksonville Beach, FL, before relocating to Cayce in 1966. Bill received two Bronze Service Stars as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II while serving in the Rhineland Central European Campaign. Post-war, he was a longtime employee of Volkswagen of America and later worked with Nix and Dorsey Horton Volkswagens in Columbia. Bill was also an avid golfer. He won numerous Senior and Super Senior Club Championships at Hidden Valley Country Club and proudly recorded nine holes-in-one during his life. A cherished member of Cayce United Methodist Church, Bill served on the Church Committee, the Endowment Committee, and as a lay speaker at nursing homes throughout the area. Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 20th at Cayce UMC. Thompson Funeral Home is serving the family.
