LORIS - Furman Davis Gause Sr., age 86, of Dusty Road, passed away Tuesday night, Sept. 20, 2005 at Loris Community Hospital following an illness.
Mr. Gause was born July 9, 1919 in Horry County, a son of the late Davis Gause and the late Eva Floyd Gause. He was a U.S. Army Veteran where he served during World War II and retired as a Staff Sergeant after 20 years of service. Mr. Gause also served 20 years in law enforcement as a police officer in Loris and Conway. He was a security guard at Conway Hospital for 14 years. Mr. Gause loved to fish and hunt and was an avid gardener who grew a big vegetable garden. He was of the Baptist faith and a friend to all who knew him. He was predeceased by two brothers, James Gause and Alton Gause; and two sisters, Vera Boyd, and Lavenia Stephens.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 33 years, Mrs. Doris Tompkins Gause of the home; seven daughters, Dawn Holt and her husband, Paul, of Conway, Elaine Mattson and her husband, Niclas, of Loris, Sybil Lovell and her husband, Ernie, of Warsaw, Ky., Diane Heffelfinger of Pa., Kim Tucker of Kan., Nadine McCafferty and Stephanie Gause, both of Ga., one son, Furman Davis Gause Jr. of Loris; two sisters, Alice Elliott and Velma Cox, both of Loris; 13 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Friday, Sept. 23, 2005 from 7 until 9 p.m. at Ward Funeral Home of Loris. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005 at 3 p.m. from the Ward Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Earl Barnhill, the Rev. Ragsdale Allsbrook, and Mr. Anthony ''Buddy'' Skipper officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
