LORIS | Mrs. Josie Elizabeth Cox Springs, 92, of the Mt. Vernon Community, died Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at the home of her daughter following an extended illness.
Born September 17, 1914 in Horry County, South Carolina, Mrs. Springs was the widow of the late Herman Travis Springs and a daughter of the late Joseph Jackson Cox and the late Mary Frances Cox.
Mrs. Springs was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who devoted her life to her family and to the service of her Lord Jesus Christ.
She was predeceased by three infant children; two brothers, Leon J. Cox and Barney L. Cox; and one sister, Dessie Jane Cox.
Mrs. Springs was a charter member of Princeville Baptist Church, where she served in various capacities, including church treasurer and Sunday School teacher, throughout the course of her lifetime.
She was known for her great love of all children, who affectionately referred to her as ''Aunt Josie.''
Mrs. Springs lovingly served as a foster mother to 14 children and mentor to the children of her church, extended family and community.
She also enjoyed writing Christian poetry and speeches for special occasions. She welcomed all opportunities to share her faith with those she encountered.
Mrs. Springs is survived by her daughter, Rosa Lee James and her husband, Wilbur McNeil James Sr.; one grandson, Wilbur McNeil ''Neil'' James Jr. and his wife, Felicia C. James of Loris; three granddaughters, Amanda James Mills and her husband, Tony D. Mills of Loris, Mary James Anderson and her husband, J. Russell Anderson of Conway and Darra James Coleman and her husband, Todd N. Coleman of Lexington; and five great-grandchildren, Cameron Mills, Alexis James, Hannah Mills, Alston James and Graham Anderson.
She is survived by many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2007 at Hardwick Funeral Home in Loris.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 4, 2007 at 3 p.m in the Hardwick Memorial Chapel with committal services following at Harrelson Cemetery. The Rev. Larry Rodeffer, the Rev. Jeff Wallace and the Rev. Rory Thigpen will officiate services.
