This is a story told to me by Clarence's only living daughter, Emma Sewell. Told in Feb. 2010

I asked Emma if Clarence's middle initial L stood for LEE, because his first son was Jesse Lee Sewell and I could never find a record that said for sure what Clarence's was.

Emma said that Clarence had went to a Grocier and the Grocier was going to give him "credit" but needed to know his middle name. Clarence responded, "I don't have one!" So the grocier decides on the initial L, for the sake of having it on paper, and from then on my grandfather was Clarence L. Sewell
