John W. Todd died at his residence in Horry County, September 21st 1892 at the ripe old age of 70 years one month and two days. Elder Daniel Boyd performed the funeral services at the Todd grave yard, preaching from Job 15th chapter 14th verse. He leaves a host of relatives and friends to mourn their loss, but their loss is his eternal gain. He was a consistent member of the Baptist Church, recently at Macedonia. Brother Todd had been afflicted for several years at times seemingly near his end, and bore it with patience and resignation. On nearing his death he expressed a desire to commune with his brethren once more on earth, which he did, and said he felt like praising God in the highest.
Bro. Todd in youth made a trip to Alabama but soon returned and married Mary Ann Prince, March 28th 1849, who bore him eight children five of whom preceeded him to the eternal world. This wife died Sept. 15th 1864 and March 17th 1866 he married Carolina M. Vaught, who bore him nine children, of whom he was the survivor of three. This wife died June 20th 1880 and on May 29th 1883 he was again married, this time, to L. C. Sibett of Columbus County, N. C. the issue of which marriage was two children. She survives him. Bro. Todd by his pleasant general manner made many friends and at his decease had not a known enemy.
